Butterfly have created a series of interactive, online shows that are streamed LIVE directly into classrooms, wherever they are in the world!

Butterfly specialises in working with Shakespeare and has extensive experience creating accessible and highly entertaining productions of his work. Our productions are carefully edited, using the original text, to distil each play into an hour long show.

A Christmas Carol

We also love reinventing classics. Our A Christmas Carol is the festive favourite for the winter months.

There are various options of how you can enjoy our current series:

  • Students will enjoy a unique and memorable online theatre experience and are given the opportunity to join our professional Butterfly actors and be in the show with us!

    Your students will work with our team to co-create one of our online productions. Led by our professional Butterfly actors playing the main characters, your students will help to create the finished production with us, by taking on smaller roles, creating props, bits of costume and set, and getting involved in group interactive moments and activities throughout the performance.

    This will be your school’s very own unique online performance, featuring one of your students playing Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol, Balthasar delivering tragic news to Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, or joining the Mechanicals as Snout the Tinker in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

    Through this experience, Your students will learn new skills through creating and performing in an online production, and will be immersed in a totally new and unique experience, designed to inspire, excite and spark their imaginations.

    Your class will be given a resource pack to accompany the experience.

    DURATION: 2 hours

    AGE GROUP: KS2 upwards (adapted to suit varying age groups)

  • Your students play co-directors as they help break down key scenes and help the characters on their journey through the play.

    Throughout the experience, your students will watch a variety of live and pre-recorded scenes, from one of the plays in our series, and will help the characters navigate their way through the story with activities and discussions with our Butterfly practitioners.

    This is an opportunity for your students to delve deeper into the story and to help them better understand the characters and narrative. You will learn about character objectives and help establish them within the scene, you will explore the characters motives, tactics, stakes and entitlement, and discuss their next moves and possible outcomes. Your students will also learn more about the play by touching upon storytelling techniques, literary devices and performance skills including direct address to the audience. These are transferable tools across both English and Drama subjects.

    Your class will be given a resource pack to accompany the experience.
